Wash and Go

About a year ago I decided to try my hands at some homemade natural products.  My first one was a laundry detergent.  It is the powder kind.  I made my first batch in January 2014 and I am finally ready to make a new batch of laundry detergent.  For my family it works great our clothes come out clean and I have my own softener crystals I make to help with smells and softening clothes.  I am not quite out of that yet but I will give a DIY on those soon. It cost me about  $12 for all the supplies and I haven’t bought any detergent in over a year.  Now this is for 2 people with about 4-5 loads a week. Why so many you may ask- well we like to wash all towels and sheets every week in this house.

It is really simple and you can get all the ingredients from your local Walmart or Target.

1 box – Borax  $8 – boosts cleaning power and gets rid of odors

20 Mule Team Borax

1 box – Washing Soda  $3  – powerful cleaner and busts through grease and stains

2 cups – Baking Soda  $1 inexpensive way to boost detergent and bleach performance, soften clothes

Mix them all together and put into a container or jar with an old coffee scoop or table spoon measuring spoon.2015-01-12 17.33.38

Makes about 18-19 cups worth

Wash, Rinse, Repeat as needed!  That’s it.  I only need to use 2T for a full load of laundry but depending on how dirty the clothes are up to 1/4 cup.

Savings in my opinion are about $100+ per year!  What do you have to lose (besides dirt)?
